Congressman's home invaded in Iowa...

You have probably heard about this home invasion in Iowa. The home belongs to democrat congressman Leonard Boswell. No one was seriously injured in the incident.

The would be thief was chased away by the congressman's grandson who was wielding a shotgun.

But what if the grandson hadn't been armed? The congressman is 77 years old, would he have been able to protect his family from the 19 year old thug who invaded his home? Fortunately, there were no shots fired.

If this isn't a ringing endorsement of the 2nd Amendment, then what is? We have the right to protect ourselves from those who want to harm us. And as a Father and Husband it is my responsibility to protect those who depend on me.

Congressman Boswell scores an A from the NRA on gun rights issues. If all democrats were that intelligent it would be much easier to talk to them...

Range Day - July 4th, 2011

Me, my Bride and both Girls went shooting Monday morning. I thought it was quite fitting celebrating the 4th of July by firing a few rounds.

We shot two rounds of trap each. None of us did worth a damn on the first set. This was only the second time my Bride had fired shotguns, so she gets a pass. But neither of the Girls did worth a damn either. The Little One, who is normally a very fine shot only hit about 5 clay pigeons.

On the second round, my Oldest hit about 10 in a row, but not much else. The Little One hit a few more than the first round but not much more. My Bride hit 4 or 5 in a row. I, though, shot probably the best round I have in a long time. I got 22 out of 25. It was nice to be shooting my Mossberg 500 again!

Since my Bride doesn't normally go out with the Girls and I, she hasn't seen the way they handle themselves at the range. She was amazed at how comfortable my Little One is with her Remington 870. It's a very cool thing to see.

Even though we didn't shoot great, we had a lot of good, clean, family fun. People that don't shoot are really missing out...

Range Day - July 2nd 2011

Me, Big Mullet, his Daughter and Son-in-Law headed out to the shotgun range today.

I was experimenting with my Mossberg 590A1 and trap shooting. I learned a valuable lesson. The Mossberg 590A1 is a fine combat shotgun, it's also about the best you can get for protecting your home, but it isn't worth a damn for trap shooting. I know, I know, that's not what it's designed for, but I had to give it a try. My last round I hit 13 out of 25, which, if you think about it, isn't that bad for a close range gun.

Big Mullet, as usual kicked ass. His last round he hit 21 out of 25. Not bad at all. He hit 19 out of 25 on the next to last round.

Big Mullet's Daughter didn't shoot. She is a crack shot with an AR-15 though.

Her husband is an NRA pistol instructor and also teaches Concealed Carry classes. Today, though, was his first time shooting trap. He did a pretty good job though. He was firing my Mossberg 500 for two out of the three rounds we shot. I think his final round he hit 15 out of 25. Pretty respectable for his first time out.

It's funny, there is a group of guys that are always at the shotgun range on Saturday morning. They are all awesome human beings. They are quick to give a tip to improve your ability. They are eager to loan a gun to a guy in need. Just a great bunch of guys. Every trip out there is an enjoyable experience.

Today was the first time Big Mullet has been to this range. I think he will be back...

If you want a Saiga shotgun, you better get it soon...

You know the atf, the government agency who's goal is to take away your guns and gun rights? It seems they are on a mission to end or  seriously restrict the importation of shotguns.

Don't these assholes have enough to worry about with project gunwalker? You would think that would be consuming most of their time these days, from both ends. Conducting it and defending it...

Anyway, these are some of the criteria for the weapons they propose banning:

Folding, telescoping, or collapsible stocks

Bayonet lugs

Flash suppressors

Magazines over 5 rounds, or a drum magazine

Grenade-launcher mounts

Integrated rail systems (other than on top of the receiver or barrel)

Light enhancing devices

Excessive weight (greater than 10 pounds for 12 gauge or smaller)

Excessive bulk (greater than 3 inches in width and/or greater than 4 inches in depth)

Forward pistol grips or other protruding parts designed or used for gripping the shotgun with the shooter’s extended hand.

This is just a stupid list. And who in the hell are they to tell me what I can purchase with my hard earned dollars? If I want a 14 pound, magazine fed 12 gauge, with a flash suppresor and a pistol grip, that is my business.

What does weight or width have to do with the importation of a shotgun anyway? Or a rail system? Or a bayonet lug?

These guys really need to get a hobby or something instead of sitting around thinking up ways to fuck with the American people...

Yesterday at the range...

I talked a yesterday about our family trip to the range. I got a chance to mess around with the pictures a little this evening so I thought I would post up a few.

My Bride working the Remington 20 gauge...

My Oldest getting ready to blast another pigeon.

My Little One after knocking down another pigeon.

My Bride drawing a bead on one. See the little orange dot?

Good, clean family fun at the range. I like to think they all learning skills that will help them later in life. But the way we are headed in this Country, they may need those skills to eat before long.
