On this day in History...

On this day in History, June 3rd, 1808, Jefferson Davis was born in Christian County, Kentucky.   Davis was the first and only President of the Confederacy.

He was a West Point graduate. He was the United States Secretary of War under Democratic President Franklin Pierce. He was a democratic United States Senator representing the State of Mississippi. As a senator, he argued against secession, but did agree that each state was sovereign and had an unquestionable right to secede from the Union.
